When John R. “Buddy” Sherlock was born on June 7, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his father, John, was 33 and his mother, Estelle, was 34. He had three sisters. Sherlock was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh before entering service Aug. 15, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was overseas for six weeks, and had received the Combat Infantryman Medal. He died on March 4, 1945 and is now buried in Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA.
