When Wesley Stonewall "Jack" Self was born on September 24, 1911, in Erick, Oklahoma, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Willie, was 28. He had two brothers and six sisters. He enlisted in the Army on April 1, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on March 8, 1945 and is now buried in Corona Sunnyslope Cemetery, Corona, Riverside County, California, USA.
