When Stanley J. Kowalewski was born on May 21, 1920, in New York, his father, Alexander, was 25 and his mother, Veronica, was 23. He had one son with Ann Bukowski. Kowalewski attended Transfiguration school and was a member and communicant of Church of the Transfiguration. He was employed by Halcomb Steel Co. before entering service May 18, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was wounded in action on Jan. 15 and again on Jan. 23. He died Feb. 9, 1945 in Germany and is now buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA.
