Joseph Lee Ansell was born on June 10, 1918, in Pennsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Norman Grant Ansell and Edith Christiana Gary Shupe.
He served in the 305th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He died on July 22, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
