William Joseph Valkenier was born on May 3, 1919, in Wallaceburg, Chatham-Kent Municipality, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Edmond Courteaux (deceased when William enlisted) and Florina Valkenier, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Husband of Beryl Edna Valkenier, of Sutton, Surrey, England.
William served in the 419 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on May 6, 1942, when his Wellington aircraft # X 3717 was carrying 70 x 30 lb. incendiaries when it went down over Germany during an attack against Stuttgart.
