Thomas Francis Fennelly was born at Brooklyn, New York, on October 5, 1876, the son of Irish immigrants, Timothy and Margaret Dunne Fennelly. An engineer by training, Thomas Fennelly and his wife Bessie were raising a family in Massachusetts. When World War I broke out, he felt a duty to help. In July 1917, he traveled to Canada and enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force and served with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. PVT Fennelly died of wounds on November 7, 1918 on the battlefield in France while advancing on enemy positions. He is now buried in the Quievrain Communal Cemetery, Belgium.
