Frederick Thomas Eckhoff was born on July 24, 1922, in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. A former student at the Newtown High School in Queens, he was employed as a baker in Brooklyn prior to his entry into the service in October 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla.

Frederick served in the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division. He died of wounds on August 21, 1944, from a tragic event when his tank overran a mine in Saint-Lubin-des-Joncherets, France, on August 20. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
