Lucious Roscoe Lawson was born on May 19, 1924, in Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia. He was the son of Sam Lawson and Cora Lee James Lawson.

Lucious was 20 years old and worked as a farm boy before entering the military service. He served in the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on August 20, 1944, after his tank overran a mine in Saint-Lubin-des-Joncherets, France. He is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
