When Guillermo Guerra was born on December 17, 1920, in Rio Grande City, Texas, his father, Federico, was 22 and his mother, Cristina, was 19. He had two brothers and one sister. He enlisted in the Army on September 26, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.
