Norbert W. Herriges was born on December 3, 1919, in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was the son of Nicolas Peter Herriges and Anastasia Theresa Strunk Herriges. He was the husband of Jean Elenor Harrison Kaluza.

Norbert served in the 522nd Fighter Squadron, 27th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47 Thunderbolt #42-26442 during World War II. On August 12, 1944, at 16h30, he took off from Serragia airfield in Corsica, France, on a mission to the marshaling yards of Miramas in France. Shot down by an Me109 fighter piloted by Oberfelwebel Eduard Isken of JG/200 at 7:15 p.m., 2Lt Herriges evacuated his airplane by parachute. Unfortunately, his parachute did not open resulting in his death. His airplane crashed at Pinchinat in the commune of Pourrières.
