George Cranston Philipoteaux was born on January 30, 1890, in New York, New York County (Manhattan), New York. He served in the Signal Reserve Corps as a First Lieutenant during World War I. 1Lt Philipoteaux was killed in an airplane accident on February 25, 1918, in France, and is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. He was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
