Frank Martin May was born on July 6, 1895, in Smith County, Kansas. He was the son of Francis Alexander May and Arozanna Asbarene Colwell May.

Frank served in the 54th Aero Squadron as a Corporal during World War I. He died in France on January 3, 1918, and is now buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cora, Smith County, Kansas, USA. Cpl May was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
