James Calder Marquardt was born on September 14, 1891, in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the 27th Aero Squadron as a First Lieutenant during World War I. He was killed in an airplane accident in France on April 20, 1918, and is now buried in the Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. 1Lt Marquardt was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
