Charles Anthony Gibb was born on August 1, 1917, in Newburgh, Orange County, New York. He was the son of Charles F. Gibb and Catherine Gibb.

Charles Anthony served in the 56th Field Artillery Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the Piper L-4 #43-29658 during World War II.

On August 9, 1944, during a mission to drop plasma pouches to ground troops, his plane crashed near Pleurtuit, France. The airplane was probably shot down by flak and possibly collided with Piper L-4 #43-30014. 1Lt Gibbs is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
