Richard Cook Callaway was born on January 14, 1919 and was from Jefferson County, Indiana. He joined the Canadian Army and served in the 48th Highlanders of Canada. During Operation Diadem, Callaway was killed on May 22, 1944 while attacking across the Gustav Line. He is buried in the CWGC Military Cemetery at Cassino, Italy and there is a cenotaph to his honor located at the Springdale Cemetery, Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana, located in plot: East ½, Lot 442, The Elms.
