Gunner of the B-17 43-37865, SSgt Borba took off from Station 139 Thorpe Abbotts, UK, on a bombing mission over St-Sylvain. The plane was hit by flak and exploded in mid-air at 1232. He was the only survivor, later taken prisoner. After the war he was a member of the Operating Engineers for 25 years and was employed by the Warm Springs Dam Project before his retirement to Nevada. He died in the VA hospital in Reno, Nevada in 1983.
