Richard J. Lauritzen was born on March 15, 1911 in Pennsylvania. He was a gunner on B-24 #42-73064, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Squadron. The plane crashed taking off from Pandaveswar airbase in India on a bombing mission, and all aboard were killed. Richard is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.

Ssgt Lauritzen was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
