George Leo Beeves, Jr. was born on June 24, 1922. He He resided in Wyandotte County, Kansas prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 27, 1941 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents. George served as a Sergeant and Crew Chief on C-87 #41-23669, 3rd Squadron, 1st Ferry Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

C-87 #41-23669 took off, with a crew of 6, from Yangkai, China on a cargo mission to Chabua, India. After take off this C-87 was not heard from or seen again and the entire crew went missing. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, San Diego County, California.

Sgt Beeves was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
