Russell Rauch was born on November 5, 1918 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He resided in Stark County, Ohio prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 20, 1942 in Canton, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles and also as Single, without dependents. Russell served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on B-25D #41-30406, 491st Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

B-25D #41-30406 took off from Chabua, India on a mission to Yangkai, China. Due to extreme icing the B-25 crashed somewhere either in India or China. Russell was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

1Lt Rauch was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
