Hartvig "Hart" Larsen, Jr. was born in 1919 in Iowa. He was the son of Herman E. Larsen and Anna H. Larsen. He attended North High School, enlisted in the Air Forces in July 1940, and went overseas in January 1943. First stationed in Africa, he saw President Roosevelt at Casablanca, and was transferred to China. hartbig served in the 78th Transport Squadron, 22nd Air Transport Group as a Second Lieutenant and a Pilot of a four motored bomber. He died on September 10, 1943 in an Asiatic area. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

2Lt Larsen was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
