Edward G. Hodgson was born on October 10, 1918. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the summer of 1941. Later, he transferred to the United States Air Corps and for several months took training in the country. Some time ago he volunteered for duty as a Flight Officer and was in a Troop Carrier Squadron, flying C-47's, on all kinds of transport duty. He was stationed in India and was flying supplies to China. He died on November 27, 1943 in Dinjan, India at the age of 25 and is now buried in the Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Sioux County, Iowa, USA.

Edward was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
