Jack V. Harless was born on September 11, 1924. He served in the 315th Squadron, 443rd Troop Carrier Group as a Flight Officer and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 1, 1945 while co-piloting C-46D Commando #44-78200 in the China-Burma-India theatre of operations and is now buried in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina, USA. Jack was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
