James Frank Folmar was born on February 21, 1920 in Escambia County, Florida. He was the son of Jesse Frank Folmar and Thelma Hendrix Folmar. He served in the 75th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group as a Captain during World War II. He was declared "Missing in Action" on August 17, 1944 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Myrtle Grove Methodist Cemetery, Myrtle Grove, Escambia County, Florida.
Capt. Folmar was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China and ranked as a Lieutenant.
