Richard Dale Fillman was born on June 27, 1925 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. He was the son of Lawrence Oliver Fillman and Fern Matilda Keeney Fillman. Richard served in the 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron as a Sergeant and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. He died on July 11, 1945 and is now buried in the Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
