Charles Albert Cannon, Jr. was born on August 28, 1919 in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He was the son of Charles Albert Cannon and Ruth Louise Coltrane Cannon. He served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant. Cannon, Jr. was a Pilot during the Second World War and was lost in Southeast Asia while on a mission. The body was never recovered. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA. Charles was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China where his job is inscribed as a Co-pilot.
