Charles E. Bruntraeger was born on September 18, 1919 in Kings County (Brooklyn), New York. He served in the 373rd Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator on a B-24 aircraft. He died on January 15, 1944 in China at the age of 24 and is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA. Charles was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1945-01-15.
