Paul Donald Bergren, aged 23, was born on June 21, 1921 in Minnesota. He was the son of John August Bergren and Nora Theresa Elstad Bergren. Sgt. Bergren was a gunner on B-24J #42-73080, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 492nd Bombardment Squadron. They crashed on final approach to Kurmitola airbase in India, having flown from Kunming China. All aboard, except the co-pilot, were killed. He died on August 18, 1944 and is now buried in the Lake Park Cemetery, Lake Park, Becker County, Minnesota, USA. Paul was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
