Comments:

On the 27th of January, 1948, at 1530, 1st Lieutenant Earl Everett Baskin took off from Rhein-Main, Germany, for Italy as pilot in a C-47 Dakota of the American Army. It crashed on the White Horse summit, in the Alps, killing everyone aboard. January 30th, once the C-47’s wreck was confirmed, an American SB-17, two days out from Germany, took off with its six crew, three journalists and a passenger to overfly the area and crashed as well. The only survivor was rescued by a German POW.
