Jewel Hinch was born on September 4, 1921 in Bourbon, Crawford County, Missouri. He was the son of John S. Hinch and Fannie Payne Hinch. Jewel served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 8, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery, Leasburg, Crawford County, Missouri, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium and ranked as a Corporal.
