Lyle D. Uptegraph was born on June 8, 1924 in Truxall, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of George Wilson and Mary Adeline (Johns) Uptegraph. Lyle enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 19, 1943 at Greensburg, Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 7, 1944 in France at the age of 19 and is now buried in Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA.
