Peter M. Halesey, Jr. was born on January 18, 1923 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Peter Martin Halesey and Mary V. Gaughan Halesey. A graduate of Hanover Township High School, class of 1941, Private Halesey was employed by Penn Tobacco Company before entering the service on April 19, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private. He took part in the initial landing at Normandy in France and was killed on June 16, 1944, while acting as a forward observer for the field artillery of the 1st Infantry Division. He is now buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Hanover, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA
