Murrey Elwin Goldthwaite was born on April 9, 1920 in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine. He was the son of Frank Guy Goldthwaite and Georgia Abbott Goldthwaite. He enlisted in the Army on December 15, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted as being employed as a lumbermen and also as Single, with dependents. He resided in Oxford County, Maine prior to the war. Murrey served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 9, 1944 in France at the age of 24 and is now buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine, USA.
