Walter W. Geringer was born on February 4, 1925 in St. Louis City, Missouri. He was the son of Charles Geringer and Clara T. Pingel Geringer. He enlisted in the US Army June 22, 1943 at Jefferson Barracks, St Louis, MO. Enlistment papers state he had a grammar school education and was involved in the occupation of manufacture of boots and shoes at the time. Walter served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Company G, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 19 and is now buried in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Arnold, Jefferson County, Missouri, USA.
