Loy G. Bishop was born on March 25, 1921 in Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France. His body was initially unrecoverable or unidentifiable, PFC Bishop's remains were later recovered and identified. His remains are interred at Bethany Cemetery, Fayetteville, Fayette County, Georgia. PFC Bishop's name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer/St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France.
