Walter Henry Kreke was born on July 4, 1915 in Breese, Clinton County, Illinois. He was the son of Bernard H. Kreke and Christine M. Kahrhoff Kreke. Walter served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Corporal in the 20th Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 29 and is now buried in Saint Dominic and Saint Augustine Catholic Cemeter, Breese, Clinton County, Illinois, USA.
