Matthew H. Biernacki was born in 1921 in New York. He enlisted in the Army on July 18, 1939, prior to the war, in Buffalo, New York. He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war. Matthew served as a Technician Fifth Class, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Omaha Beach, France and ranked as a Corporal.
