Roland A. Ehlers was born on November 28, 1917 in Kansas. He was the son of John A. Ehlers and Marie M. O'Neill Ehlers. Roland served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France when his landing craft was struck by a mortar shell. He is now buried in Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas, USA.
