George Washington Bert was born on February 22, 1920. He was the son of Jesse Hoover Bert and Elizabeth Mae Rosenberry Bert. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company F, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 24 and is now buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA.
