George Conrad “Georgie” Beebe was born on December 20, 1919 in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. He was the son of James Archie Beebe and Grace Lee Young Beebe. He enlisted in the Army on October 10, 1941 in Dover, Delaware and was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as Single, without dependents. George had fought in the North African Campaign and at Sicily, Italy before he was transferred to England to become involved in the D-Day invasion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
