Walter Danchak was born on March 22, 1922 in Coaldale, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Harry Danchak and Anna Goida Danchak. Walter was graduated from Coaldale High School in 1940 and was employed at the Coaldale colliery of the Lehigh Navigation Coal Co. prior to enlisting at Camp Wheeler, Ga., and as a member of the infantry was sent overseas without receiving a furlough. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He has seen participation in the African and Sicilian campaigns. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
