Leonard C. Godfray was born on December 12, 1912 in Massachusetts. He entered the military service in Rhode Island and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Major in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was killed during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France but was declared "Missing" on June 6, 1944 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam, Windham County, Connecticut, USA.
