Ralph H. Whitfield, aged 19, was born on November 14, 1925 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas M. Whitfield and he attended the Blaine School, and Manual Training H.S. He was working for the Armour Co. of Peoria prior to his enlistment in Peoria in December of 1943, and did his training at Camp Wolters, Texas. He was in the War Zone as a replacement in June of 1944. Ralph served in the 363rd Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was killed in action while doing "Mopping Up Exerecise" in Italy on April 16, 1945 and is now buried in the Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy.
