Loren F. Schmidt, aged 39, was born on May 7, 1905 in Havelock, Pocahontas County, Iowa. Loren first went to Leadville, Colorado, then moved onto California to work in construction. He was inducted into the Army and served in Africa, and then in Italy. he served in the 363rd Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division as a Private First Class during World War II. Loren died on July 8, 1944 during the battle in the area of Ponzalla, Italy and is now buried in the Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy.
