Cecil served in the 363rd Infantry, 91st Infantry Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He died on April 16, 1945 during the battle in the area of Ponzalla, Italy and is now buried in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina, USA.
