Richard Charles McKinney, aged 22, was born on June 11, 1922. He was the son of Allen Lee McKinney and Vergie Owen McKinney. Richard served in the 363rd Infantry, 91st Infantry Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He died on September 13, 1944 during the battle in the area of Ponzalla in Italy and is now buried in the Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy. There is also has a marker in honor of his memory at Lakeside Cemetery, Transylvania County, North Carolina, USA. That marker is named Charles Richard McKinney, as is his obituary.
