Delbert Argil McCauley, aged 20, was born on March 7, 1924 in Braxton County, West Virginia. He was the son of Delbert Walton McCauley and Mamie Angeline Graff McCauley. Delbert served in the 363rd Infantry, 91st Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 21, 1944 and is now buried in the Quickle Cemetery, Burnsville, Braxton County, West Virginia, USA. The day he was killed, they were under heavy mortar and artillery fire and Delbert was helping to evacuate his wounded comrades from the front lines. While in the performance of this duty, he was struck with shrapnel and killed instantly.
