Peter Wojtalewicz (also spelled Wojtalowicz) was born on October 18, 1898. He was among the first killed in action during WW1 in France. was Killed in Action while serving in the US Army during World War I as a Private in Company K, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.

Thousands paid tribute yesterday to the memory of Peter Woptalewicz, the first Chicago soldier killed in action of American troops in this war in France. Services were held in St. Adalbert's Polish Roman Catholic church, West Seventeenth and South Paulina streets. Archbishop Mundelein occupied the archepiscopal throne in the sanctuary and the Rt. Rev. Mgr. Edward F. Hoban, the Rt. Rev. Mgr. Stanislas Nawrocki, and a number of Polish priests from all parts of the city were present.
