Charles Benton Debord, Jr., aged 19, was born on April 13, 1925 in Smyth County, Virginia. He was the son of Charles B. Debord and Goldie M. Debord. He entered the service on August 16, 1943 and had taken his training at Camp Adair. He had been overseas since March 26, 1944. Charles served in the 363rd Infantry, 91st Infantry Division as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1944 in the battle around the area of Ponzalla in Italy and is now buried in the Thomas Cemetery, Marion, Smyth County, Virginia, USA.
