When William H. Riddell was born on November 14, 1886, in Glen Huron, Ontario, Canada, his father, George, was 43 and his mother, Cathrine, was 32. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 30 in Niagara Falls, New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company C, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He died on July 21, 1918, in Belleau, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France, at the age of 31, and was buried in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.
