When Orville F. Martin was born on December 7, 1898, in Mound Valley, Kansas, his father, Edward, was 24 and his mother, Ida, was 23. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Battery D, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 29, 1918 (at the age of 19) and is now buried in Normal Hill Cemetery, Lewiston, Nez Perce County, Idaho, USA.
